Cambodia Calls for Restraint in Public Statements on UNCLOS Conciliation Proceedings
AKP Phnom Penh, October 15, 2026 –
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia has informed the public and media outlets that both Cambodia and Thailand are required to refrain from making public statements on the outcomes of the ongoing conciliation proceedings until the Conciliation Commission issues its official press release.
In a notice issued on Oct. 15, the Ministry’s spokesperson said the requirement was stipulated in the Rules of Procedure agreed upon by both parties for the second meeting of the Conciliation Commission established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The second meeting is being held from Oct. 14 to 18, 2026, at the Peace Palace, the headquarters of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in The Hague, the Netherlands.
The Ministry said it would provide relevant updates in due course and expressed appreciation for the public’s and media outlets’ patience and understanding.
