AOT-KH Visits An Ses Border Area to Observe Post-Ceasefire Situation
AKP Phnom Penh, October 7, 2026 --
The Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) facilitated a field visit by the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) to the An Ses Border Checkpoint area in Preah Vihear province on Wednesday morning to observe, verify and report on the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border, according to the Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence.
The visit took place at 10:24 a.m. in the An Ses Border Checkpoint area, located in Choam Ksan commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province.
According to the Ministry of National Defence, since the ceasefire took effect on Dec. 27, 2025, the Thai military has continued to deploy shipping containers, install barbed wire, dig trenches and construct fortifications, as well as destroy infrastructure, houses and civilian property and occupy Cambodian territory in the An Ses area.
The Ministry said these actions have left 1,114 Cambodian civilians, or 357 families, including 711 women and 597 children, unable to return to their homes.
Cambodia maintains a firm position on protecting the Cambodia-Thailand international boundary established by the Indochina-Siam Boundary Commission, while respecting international law, including the principle of the intangibility of inherited borders (Uti Possidetis Juris), the ministry said.
The Ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s adherence to the Franco-Siamese conventions and treaties, maps and procès-verbaux of the Commission of the Abornement of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam, as well as other relevant agreements and documents previously agreed upon by both sides.
Cambodia does not recognise any alteration of the border resulting from the use of force, the ministry stressed.
The Royal Government and Ministry of National Defence also reaffirmed their firm and unwavering commitment to fully and faithfully respect and implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) of Dec. 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand of Oct. 26, 2025, and other relevant agreements.
These commitments, the Ministry said, are aimed at contributing to the swift improvement of the situation and restoration of normalcy along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
