Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City Mark 22nd Anniversary of Sister-City Ties
AKP Phnom Penh, October 6, 2026 -- Phnom Penh Municipal Governor H.E. Khuong Sreng met with H.E. Tran Van Bay, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, to mark the 22nd anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City and the 59th anniversary of Cambodia-Vietnam diplomatic relations.
The meeting took place on the afternoon of Oct. 5 in Ho Chi Minh City, during H.E. Khuong Sreng’s two-day official visit to Vietnam to attend the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ho Chi Minh City High Command on the construction project of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship School.
Speaking at the meeting, H.E. Khuong Sreng said Phnom Penh Municipal Administration, representing the Royal Government and people of Cambodia, extended its congratulations on the 22nd anniversary of the sister-city ties between Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City and the 59th anniversary of Cambodia-Vietnam diplomatic relations in the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Year 2026.
He expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to the Phnom Penh delegation and commended Ho Chi Minh City for its rapid development.
H.E. Khuong Sreng said Phnom Penh has continued its development under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet through the Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1, while benefiting from the peace achieved through the Win-Win Policy of Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
For his part, H.E. Tran Van Bay shared information on Ho Chi Minh City’s economic and tourism development, as well as some challenges the city is addressing, including traffic congestion, flooding, environmental pollution and drug-related issues.
He also presented H.E. Khuong Sreng with an official invitation from the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to attend the 2026 Autumn Economic Forum on “New Global Economic Drivers Integration,” under the theme “Cooperation in the New Era.”
The forum is scheduled to take place from Oct. 26 to 29, 2026, with more than 1,500 participants expected to attend.
