CDC Seeks for More Chinese Investment in Agro-Processing and Manufacturing Supply Chains
AKP Phnom Penh, June 08, 2026 --
Cambodia's investment authorities have called for deeper Chinese participation in agro-industrial processing and manufacturing supply chains as the two countries seek to expand economic cooperation amid growing trade and investment flows.
The proposal was raised during a courtesy meeting held here on June 8 between H.E. Chea Vuthy, Secretary-General of the Cambodian Investment Board (CIB) of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and Mr. Xue Dong, the newly appointed Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia.
During the discussions, H.E. Chea Vuthy proposed the establishment of a Cambodia-China Green Agro-Industrial Processing Zone focused on cashew processing, rubber processing and the plantation wood industry.
The initiative is intended to attract investment throughout the production chain and support Cambodia's ambition to increase domestic value-added processing.
Meanwhile, the CDC also requested support in attracting upstream industries linked to Cambodia's garment, footwear and travel goods (GFT) sector.
Mr. Xue Dong welcomed the proposals and expressed his commitment to advancing bilateral economic and trade cooperation during his posting in Cambodia.
According to a CDC report, Chinese investment in Cambodia reached US$1.169 billion in the first quarter of 2026, accounting for 46.77 percent of the Kingdom's total approved investment of US$2.5 billion.
