The Royal Government of Cambodia has launched a strategic temporary market initiative in Banteay Meanchey province to restore the livelihoods of over 3,000 conflict-displaced families, a senior official said Monday.

H.E. Kitti Sangahapundit Kun Kim, Senior Minister and First Vice-President of the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), inspected the progress of the market project in Slor Kram commune, Svay Chek district, on Sunday afternoon.

He described the initiative as a phased, concrete action plan by the Royal Government to ensure displaced citizens receive both immediate shelter and long-term economic opportunities.

"This temporary market is not merely a transient trading space," H.E. Kun Kim said during the site visit. "It represents the Royal Government’s long-term strategic planning to establish an organized, orderly, and hygienic trading hub. This measure will prevent displaced families from losing their livelihoods and rapidly revitalise the local economy."

According to the Senior Minister, the project is being executed under the direct oversight of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet. The market has been strategically positioned at the centre of the temporary housing complex to provide maximum convenience for the relocated residents.

The initiative highlights Cambodia's dual-track approach of bridging immediate humanitarian relief with sustainable community development, ensuring that aid transitions smoothly from emergency shelter provision to systematic economic integration.
