Cambodian, Vietnamese Officials Forge Closer Border Economic Ties
AKP Phnom Penh, May 22, 2026 -- Kratie Provincial Administration and the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia have held high-level talks aimed at deepening bilateral economic cooperation along their shared border.
During the meeting on Thursday afternoon at the Kratie Provincial Hall, Governor H.E. Va Thorn and Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu focused on identifying high-potential investment zones based on geographic and demographic criteria.
The discussions centred on accelerating agro-industrial development to generate employment, boost local incomes, and reduce labour migration. Key agenda items included streamlining import-export procedures for agricultural and agro-industrial products, attracting foreign direct investment, and facilitating cross-border access to healthcare, residency rights, employment opportunities, and education for nationals of both countries.
Against the backdrop of strengthening Cambodia-Vietnam relations, Kratie province has forged a robust partnership with Vietnam’s Dong Nai province, formalised through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Kratie Provincial Administration and the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee. Notably, the two provinces have completed 100 percent of their border demarcation, enabling more effective joint management and maintenance of border markers.
Governor Va Thorn acknowledged several proposals raised by the Vietnamese delegation, affirming that provincial authorities would review them rigorously in line with Cambodian legal procedures. He also announced the formation of a dedicated committee – comprising the provincial police headquarters and relevant line departments – to expedite further discussions.
