Cambodia Deports 635 Thai Nationals in Transnational Cybercrime Crackdown
AKP Phnom Penh, April 30, 2026—
Cambodian authorities on Thursday deported 635 Thai nationals arrested for involvement in illegal online operations and transnational criminal networks, officials said.
The group was handed over to Thai authorities at the Poipet International Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey Province following a large-scale enforcement operation.
Lieutenant General Som Vannvirak, Deputy Commissioner General of the National Police, confirmed that while the majority were deported, 30 additional suspects remain in Cambodian custody.
"These individuals are being held for further legal proceedings related to specific offenses committed within the Kingdom," he said, adding that the operation was characterized by close bilateral coordination between Cambodian and Thai law enforcement.
The deportations follow a targeted raid on April 25, when a joint task force inspected a high-rise condominium complex in Poipet. The site was identified as a hub for unauthorized online businesses, illegal gambling, and suspected cross-border criminal activity.
During the raid, authorities seized an extensive cache of electronic evidence, including 4,685 mobile phones and 416 computer monitors. A preliminary forensic analysis of the equipment uncovered numerous online gambling platforms specifically designed to target customers in Thailand.
Cambodian officials stated the crackdown is part of an ongoing regional effort to dismantle sophisticated cybercrime syndicates operating along the border.
