NBC Governor, AMRO Delegation Discuss Cambodia’s Economic Resilience
AKP Phnom Penh, April 29, 2026 --
H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), received a delegation from the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), led by its President Mr. Yasuto Watanabe, in Phnom Penh on April 28.
During the meeting, both sides discussed Cambodia’s economic situation, growth potential, as well as challenges ahead.
Mr. Yasuto Watanabe highlighted the resilience of the Cambodian economy at a time when the world is facing a number of challenges, including geopolitical conflicts and rising fuel prices.
He noted that emerging challenges could slow Cambodia’s economic growth, but the country remains capable of maintaining a solid growth rate thanks to its strong economic fundamentals and effective policy responses.
Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of maintaining confidence in the banking system, ensuring credit quality, and implementing appropriate measures.
For her part, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey expressed appreciation for the insights shared on Cambodia’s economic situation and outlined government policies for energy sector development, focusing on adequate supply sources and clean energy, which are key factors in mitigating the impact of rising fuel prices.
She also highlighted priorities such as expanding credit access for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and promoting sustainable finance.
AMRO’s mandate is to conduct macroeconomic surveillance, support regional financial arrangements, and provide technical assistance to its members.
