Japan Supports Cambodia’s Flood Protection Efforts
AKP Phnom Penh, April 23, 2026 -- The Government of Japan has provided a financial support for the Flood Protection and Drainage Improvement Project in Phnom Penh capital city.
The Exchange of Notes and related Documents on Extension of Japanese Yen Loan for the said project was signed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) on Thursday afternoon.
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. UENO Atsushi were the signatories.
The loan amounts to JPY 6,908,000,000 (approximately US$ 46,000,000), according to an MFAIC’s press release.
This project will enhance the resilience of Phnom Penh's infrastructure against flooding, preventing negative impact on daily life and economic activities, pointed out the press release, underlining that the continued financial assistance reflects Japan's steadfast commitment to promoting Cambodia's socio-economic development and the Cambodia-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
