Cambodia, Netherlands Pledge to Expand Economic and Trade Cooperation

Cambodia and the Netherlands have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening economic and trade cooperation as bilateral trade between the two countries surpassed US$1 billion.
The commitment was highlighted during a farewell visit by H.E. Remco Johannes van Wijngaarden, outgoing Ambassador of the Netherlands to Cambodia, to Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the positive progress in bilateral relations, particularly the strong growth in trade and economic cooperation.
He noted that bilateral trade volume had exceeded US$1 billion by 2025 and thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for its continued support for Dutch companies operating in the Kingdom.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet highly appreciated the Ambassador’s contributions to strengthening and expanding bilateral relations and cooperation in various sectors, especially trade and investment.
The Prime Minister stressed that the strong relations between the two countries provide a solid foundation for further expanding cooperation in many potential areas.
Both sides also discussed ways to deepen economic, trade, business, and investment ties through promoting business-to-business (B2B) connections, organising business visits, and participating in trade fairs to explore new investment opportunities and boost bilateral trade.
Samdech Thipadei outlined the Royal Government’s policies and mechanisms aimed at creating a favourable business environment to attract additional foreign investment while ensuring competitiveness, predictability, and long-term success for existing investors in Cambodia.
The Prime Minister and the Ambassador also exchanged views on regional and international cooperation, expressing satisfaction with collaboration within ASEAN and broader multilateral frameworks.
The Ambassador further highlighted ongoing cooperation between Cambodia and the Netherlands in diplomatic training.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei briefed H.E. Remco Johannes van Wijngaarden on recent developments regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border issue and reaffirmed Cambodia’s determination to pursue a peaceful resolution based on international law, conventions, treaties, and existing bilateral agreements.
The Ambassador welcomed Cambodia’s continued support for international law and the rules-based international order, noting that both the Netherlands and the European Union strongly support the principles of international law and the rule of law.
