Singapore has thrown its full diplomatic weight behind Cambodia’s newly enacted anti-cyber scam law, vowing close cooperation to dismantle transnational crime networks.

During a courtesy call on Monday, Singaporean Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Steven Pang Chee Wee met with Senior Minister H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, who heads the Secretariat of the Ad-hoc Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS). The talks centred on joint regional security operations and legal coordination.

Senior Minister H.E. Chhay Sinarith laid out the Royal Government’s new legal arsenal, stressing that the Law on Combating Cyber Scams is designed to target both masterminds and operatives. “The objective is to eliminate these crimes at their roots and prevent any resurgence within Cambodia,” he said, calling for international partnerships to tackle money laundering, human trafficking, and cross-border syndicates.

In response, Ambassador Pang praised the proactive establishment of the CCOS under the Prime Minister’s direct leadership, noting it has already yielded “remarkable results.” He emphasised that cyber fraud is a global threat no country can face alone.

Calling the new law “a testament to Cambodia’s clear strategy and commitment,” the Ambassador confirmed Singapore stands ready to assist through: Capacity building and technical training for law enforcement; Intelligence sharing and digital forensics best practices; Joint operations to disrupt criminal infrastructure across borders.

Both sides pledged to deepen cooperation through bilateral and multilateral channels, aiming for a more secure and resilient digital Southeast Asia.
