Cambodia Registers Four New GI Products to Strengthen National Brand Identity
AKP Phnom Penh, April 27, 2026 --
Cambodia has officially registered four additional products as Geographical Indications (GI), further strengthening the identity, reputation, and market value of Cambodian goods in domestic and international markets.
In a news release issued this morning, the Ministry of Commerce announced that the four products were officially registered on April 3, 2026, as part of efforts to protect community intellectual property rights, promote local specialties, and expand opportunities for future global recognition.
The newly registered GI products include Phnom Srok Golden Silk, a handwoven silk known for its fine, dense, glossy fibers and natural dyeing methods free from chemical substances; Koh Kong Mud Crab, harvested from mangrove areas and valued for its firm texture and naturally sweet taste; Kampong Thom Cashew Nut, recognised for its large kernels, crisp texture, long-lasting aroma, and rich buttery flavour; and Oddar Meanchey Mango, known for its firm flesh, juiciness, and balanced sweet-sour taste suitable for fresh consumption and processing.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, these products are produced and harvested in specific geographical areas where natural conditions, local expertise, and traditional production methods give them their unique identity and high quality.
The GI registration is expected to provide several benefits, including stronger legal protection against imitation and misuse of product names, preservation of traditional knowledge and cultural heritage, promotion of tourism in production regions, increased market value and export potential, and improved prospects for international GI recognition, underlined the Ministry.
