Interior Minister: Cambodia Must Persevere Amid Border Tensions
AKP Phnom Penh, April 15, 2026 —
Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H.E. Abhisantibindit Sar Sokha, called on the nation to remain resilient and maintain socio-economic momentum despite ongoing border tensions, echoing a message of national unity during the Khmer New Year celebrations.
In a statement released via his official Telegram channel late Tuesday, the Minister cited guidance from Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State. In his message, Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasised a philosophy of national endurance, stating, "An injury to one finger should not result in the total paralysis of the body."
The Minister characterised the message as a vital encouragement for Cambodians both at home and abroad, particularly for frontline troops. He noted that while the national mood has been dampened by what he described as aggressive border encroachments by neighbouring Thailand, the country must not allow its progress to be derailed.
"The border issues caused by violations of international law remain a priority, and we continue to believe in peaceful solutions based on legal frameworks and existing agreements," H.E. Sar Sokha stated. "However, in terms of daily life, we must work together to ensure our economic and social activities remain vibrant."
The Minister questioned the logic of halting national life—including the operation of markets, banks, factories, and schools—in response to external pressures. He argued that allowing the economy to stagnate would not only burden the populace but would also demoralise frontline soldiers who are currently stationed at the borders to protect territorial integrity.
"Our frontline heroes are fulfilling two great causes: defending national sovereignty and ensuring the normalcy of social life for those behind the lines," the Minister added.
H.E. Sar Sokha concluded by urging citizens to celebrate the New Year responsibly, adhere to the rule of law, and redouble their commitment to their respective duties to ensure the nation’s continued forward trajectory.
